Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose.

C.S Lewis (Irish, 1898-1963) (St. Augustine)

Lewis goes on to say why he disagrees with Augustine on this point (The Four Loves). Attributing this quote to Lewis out of context is a misrepresentation.

The Devil’s Damn

*Thanum O’n Deel,

you’ve (no, you’ll)

damn the souls

of the little foals.

/

Red mist beckons,

Red Sprite commands

wars be waged,

youth be aged.

/

The time of man,

a grain of sand

in the great hour,

encased in glass.

/

The strength of man,

frail woman’s hand.

Lack is her power,

a feeble lass.

/

Crush the glass,

stab the lass!

The sand: devour,

The woman: ours!

/

Thanum o’n deel!

Deal, yes deal,

your soul to Hell,

from paradise fell.

/

Thanum o’n deel,

my soul as well.

The Devil’s damn,

same fate as man.

*Really spelled “D’anam don diabhal”, Thanum O’n Deel is how the phrase is pronounced. It means “your soul to the devil” and is a curse of sorts in the Irish language. Here I capitalize the phrase and use it as a noun.

Fury’s Storm

Right off the train

came thundering rain;

a sky of dark,

and a crash of light.

/

Clouds are insane,

order is feigned;

Zeus’s fell spark:

the thrashing fight.

/

Grey king’s reign,

monster of pain;

hear and hark!

this Fury’s might!

Tim Adam Bag Give Away
I receive a lot of questions about bags and backpacks. I usually send people in the direction Tim Adam Bags, and with good reason too. I’ve had my Tim Adam backpack for about two years now, and still use it basically 7 days a week. The roll top design allows for a lot of space, but keeps the bag from looking odd during those times when there’s not much in it. The quality and durability of the materials and construction allow the bag to be enjoyed for years. Each bag is hand made by Tim in Portland.
Tim is relaunching his website on May 1st and to help celebrate we’re teaming up to give away a new backpack. To enter all you have to is reblog this post, likes will not enter you in the drawing. You must also be following Tim Adam and NOVH on tumblr. Once the winner is selected and contacted they will be able to pick out a bag of their choice.
Contest will close Friday May 4th at 11:59 PM. Winner will be selected at random and posted here.

(V of V)
His goldband broad round his forehead
armed to the scalp
this dear friend
dead before daybreak
and all for his battle’s boast;
downed at the end in the eyes of two armies.
/
Five times fifty heads fell to his credit.
Of the fellows who faced him
one hundred knocked in a halfhour.
/
So many friends,
so many,
given to wolves
not weddings
to scaldcrows not sacraments.

(IV of V)

Gold this brave’s band.
Half the wolf in him
half the temple too.
/
Jewel clasps on him
and precious things mounted.
/
Worth of worked horn.
Wolf at the winecup.
/
In crisis
he helped men work its worth out
for themselves.
/
Shield:splinters.
Sword:sheared off.
/
Gone all good council.
/
He ended in bloodshed.
Blood belongs everywhere.
